Professor Nazneen Rahman joins Genomics plc’s Scientific Advisory Board

Oxford, UK, 5 September 2016. We are pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Nazneen Rahman, CBE FMedSci, to Genomics plc’s Scientific Advisory Board.

Professor Rahman is Head of the Division of Genetics and Epidemiology at The Institute of Cancer Research and Head of the Cancer Genetics Clinical Unit at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, where she also practises as a Consultant Clinical Geneticist.

Professor Rahman qualified in medicine from Oxford University in 1991, and undertook her general medical training in Oxford and London. She completed a PhD in Molecular Genetics in 1999. In 2010, she was elected a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences and, in 2016, she was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in recognition of her contribution to medical sciences.

Professor Rahman’s work has been directed towards identification and clinical implementation of human disease genes, with her primary areas of research being breast, ovarian and childhood cancer susceptibility, and studies of human overgrowth. She has a strong commitment to translation of research and is currently leading two national translational research programmes: the Mainstreaming Cancer Genetics programme (, which is integrating cancer predisposition gene testing into mainstream cancer services, and the Transforming Genetic Medicine Initiative (, which is building foundational resources required to implement genetic medicine safely and effectively.
